Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Marriage & Family Therapist?

Like any licensed counselor, I am trained and licensed to work with individuals, as well as couples and families. This title simply describes the family systems framework I use.
I don't believe I can work with an individual without somehow touching on their relationships. I believe that since relationships influence so much of who we are, that in a way, I'm also working with your family when I work with you.

I am trained to see mental health diagnosis as a symptom of a greater issue, rather than some sort of sickness that needs treated.

How is this framework helpful?

My clients have been conditioned to feel like something is "wrong" with them. This framework allows them to change this mindset and stop blaming themselves. Rather they begin to understand why they struggle in the first place.

What treatment models do you use?
I use a variety of therapy approaches, but I have trained specifically in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and have found great success using this model.

Do you offer pre-marital counseling?

Yes. I have created my own curriculum using a combination of counseling theories that help couples begin the important conversations necessary for success in starting a life together.

Have you worked with couples going through an affair?

Much of my experience in couples counseling has been working with couples who have been devastated by an affair. Counseling around an affair may involve both individual and couples counseling depending on your circumstances.

What if we don't want traditional couples therapy?

I offer a 2-day couples therapy intensive for those who traditional weekly therapy isn't an option.
